Bowman testified on direct examination by County Attorney Bill Tippen that he had seen the car parked in McLaughlin's yard from the time Bowman came to Abilene as district LCB supervisor until June 2 when the arrest was made. The front of the car was on blocks.
Bowman said, the side was dented in and a tire was flat. Bowman said he and two L-men, Elmer Crowder and W. A. Phillips, first searched the house after showing a search warrant to McLaughlin. Tracks were seen leading to the car.
It was a rainy night, Bowman testified. The L-man said he followed the tracks to the car, found the beer, and took McLaughlin to jail. Scarborough indicated McLaughlin's defense was that the car did not belong to the defendant and was not in his possession. Two other state's witnesses. Northington, Dies in Houston Wayne Northington, 60, native and former longtime resident of Abilene, died Wednesday morning at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, where he had lived the last six years. Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in LaughterNorth Memorial chapel here. Mr. Northington, born in Abilene March 17, 1891, lived here all of his life until moving to Houston six years ago.
He was formerly employed by T. D. Chapman Garage here and at the time of his death was working as a mechanic in Houston. Survivors include his wife, former er Ethel Earl: a son, Marshall Northington of Abilene: a daughter, Jennie Lanford of Housgrandsons, Jack Talley, now in service in Korea, and Bobby Talley, Houston, and one brother, R. W.

23. (P--W. Albert Lee, wealthy Houston hotel man, was found shot to death today in his home. He owned Radio KLEE, established Houstons first television station, and owned and operated a group of hotels and various other industries. Justice W.
C. Ragan is conducting an inquest. A doctor summoned to the River Oaks mansion told Homicide Detective Porter that Lee had been ill and referred to a clinic in Galves. ton. Justice Ragan ruled suicide.
A .38 caliber pistol was found near the body. Albert Inge, 42, chief engineer for the Lee enterprises, said Lee talked to him and appeared to be in the best of spirits five minutes before he was shot. Inge and Mrs. Lee found the body. Inge said he had gone by the Lee home to help move some things in the garage and check on air conditioning installations and other appliances.
"Mr. Lee. in his pajamas, came out garage, and appeared to be in the scented spirits Inge said. "He to happy as a lark and was talking about how well he liked the new house. "He went back inside and then Mrs.
Lee came out to the garage. Then we heard a shot, and Mrs. Lee and I ran inside, Mr. Lee was gasping for breath." Lee's hotels include the Milby in downtown Houston. He was chairman of the Houston Fat Stock Show.
Cotton Consumption Down in September WASHINGTON, Nov. 23. Census Bureau said today cotton consumption for Sept. 30 to Nov. 3 averaged 36,568 bales for each working day.
This compared with 42,369 bales a year ago, and with 37,026 for the September period this year. Consumption in the October period was 905,062 bales compared with 722,004 in the September period and 836,788 a year ago. Cotton on hand 3 included: In consuming establishments 1,238,596 bales of lint compared with 1,489,994 a year ago. INSURANCE PLAN CHANGED Five year insurance policies, providing fire and extended coverage on the city-owned buildings and structures, were approved. City Manager Austin P.
Hanco*ck brought to the meeting the three policies, the total five-year premium of which was to be $15,831.23. Commissioners decided to eliminate from the coverage those Fair Park buildings which are scheduled for dismantling, unless the Fair Association (which is to salvage the buildings) pays the premiums. Total amount of the fiveyear premium for all park bu buildings (included over-all 831.23) was $4,959.10, and Hanco*ck estimated half of that was represented by coverage on Fair Park buildings which are to be dismantled. Cafe Entered; Motor Stolen One burglary and three thefts constituted the crime activities in Abilene during the Thanksgiving holiday, according to reports given police. Policemen Hatchett and Biddy reported at 3:45 a.m. Thursday that they found the door of the Rainbow Cafe broken into. Investigation showed that apparently nothing was stolen.
